Arsenal ‘in touch with Andre Onana’s agent over transfer’ despite Ajax ace being banned until November

ARSENAL have made contact with Ajax keeper Andre Onana’s agent over a possible transfer, according to reports.

The Gunners’ current No1 Bernd Leno has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer.

And according to Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, 25-year-old Onana is now being looked at by those at Arsenal as a shot-stopper they would like to bring to the club.

Speaking on The Here We Go Podcast, Romano said: “They are in touch with the agent.

“They like the player, he’s a serious opportunity but it’s not advanced or closed yet so now Arsenal will talk with people close to Onana, with his agent, to understand the situation.

“But, it’s not done yet.”

But if Onana does sign for Arsenal he will not be able to make his debut until November.

This is because he was recently handed a one-year doping ban after failing an out-of-competition test in February.

Upon appeal the ban was later reduced to nine months.

Onana has played 204 times for Ajax since making his debut for the first team in 2016.

He was the Dutch giants’ keeper for their superb run to the Champions League semi-finals where they were eventually beaten by Tottenham.

Onana has won two Eredivisie titles with Ajax and also been capped 18 times for Cameroon at international level.

In the 2020-21 campaign he conceded just 15 goals in 20 Eredivisie games as Ajax ran away with the title, finishing 16 points ahead of second place PSV.
