Fernandes, 26, still has four years remaining on his current deal.

As SunSport told you a fortnight ago, Man United want to reward him for his excellent form.

And according to the Mirror, Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinto has flown to Manchester to ‘step up talks’ with the Red Devils.

All being well, the contract should be signed before Fernandes plays for his country at the Euros.

Ahead of his mooted new deal, the midfielder said: “My priority today is to win trophies.

“Collective titles are more important than individual titles and we are working on that here. I think the club has improved a lot since I arrived here.

“It is in a growth phase and the players are getting more and more the mentality that you should have in a club like Manchester United, which wants to win titles and more titles.

“That’s what we’re here for. I feel like I’m part of that and I’m here to help the club evolve.”

In negotiations for the new deal, Pinto was eager to learn of United’s summer targets – with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho having been linked.

And he was also keen to have a buy-out clause included – although this was immediately rejected by United chiefs.

Since joining the Red Devils, Fernandes has bagged 40 goals in 79 appearances – in addition to laying on 25 assists.

As well as targeting attacking talent like Ronaldo, Kane and Sancho, the Red Devils are believed to be interested in signing a defender, with Villarreal ace Pau Torres in the mix.

Solskjaer, 48, will get an up close look at the Spaniard on Wednesday night, when his side face Villarreal in the Europa League final.

Torres, 24, possesses a £43m release clause in his contract – although this is expected to rise to £57m if he is still with the Yellow Submarine in the final two weeks of the transfer window.
