  • GOOOOAAAALLL – CALVERT-LEWIN!

    West Ham 0 – 1 Everton

Ben Godfrey plays a straight ball down the right hand channel for the striker.

He leaves a sluggish Craig Dawson for dead and slots it back across Fabianski and into the bottom left corner with his right foot to give the Toffees a valuable lead.

  • KICK-OFF!

    West Ham 0 – 0 Everton

The teams are off and underway at the London Stadium in this key game in the Champions League race.

West Ham can move within two points of fourth placed Leicester with a win while Everton will go eight points off the foxes with a game in hand.

  • ROM DECISION

Ashley Young admitted he was baffled by Manchester United’s decision to sell Romelu Lukaku.

Young – who joined Lukaku at Inter six months later – said: “I said it at the time, I couldn’t understand the decision.

“Whether it was made quickly or not, Romelu has proved a lot of people wrong.

“He’s worked unbelievably hard. There was talk that he was overweight and couldn’t do this or that.

“He’s smashed records and made history in Italy, he’s been unbelievable for the club.

“For me he was fantastic even in the Premier League, to go out there and face another challenge, I think it was the right choice for him.

“He deserves all the plaudits he is getting.”

  • UNITED LEAD

Manchester City’s title celebrations have been put on hold!

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood have given Manchester United a 2-1 lead at Villa Park.

Aston Villa need to find two goals in the last 12 minutes if City are to be victorious today.

  • ERGING FOR ACTION

Arsenal will have to cough up £35million for Sheffield United ace Sander Berge as manager Mikel Arteta calls on the board to splash the cash this summer.

The Gunners have endured yet another torrid season that could see them missing out on European qualification for the first time in 25 years following Thursday’s Europa League elimination to Unai Emery’s Villarreal.

Arteta is looking to bolster his midfield ahead of next season and Berge appears to be among his top summer targets, even though the Norway international endured a rough campaign marred by injury.

According to Yorkshire Live, Berge is rated at a cut-price £35m due to a relegation clause in his contract with the Blades who will playing in the Championship next season, dropping his original asking price of £45m.

This comes after the north Londoners’ manager urged the club’s hierarchy to spend big in the summer in order to put an end to the ongoing downward spiral.

  • THE MAIN MANA

Manchester United are battling it out with Ajax in the transfer chase for Kamaldeen Sulemana, according to reports.

The Ghanaian winger, 19, has been in good form for Danish side Nordsjaelland this season.

According to the Daily Mail, Ajax already saw a bid of £10million rejected in January.

But the Dutch giants still want to complete a deal for the teenage wide man.

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars is expected to be in Denmark on Monday to watch Nordsjaelland’s clash with Copenhagen.

The report adds that United remain very interested – as do German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

  • TOFFEE TWOSOME

Everton are lining up moves for Juventus keeper Wojciech Szczesny and Fulham midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, according to reports.

Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti is almost certainly set to try and bolster his squad in the summer.

And according to Calcio Mercato, Juventus are hoping to offload 31-year-old Szczesny.

Everton are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Pole, who spent six years at Arsenal between 2009 and 2015.

Chelsea are also said to be a possible suitor for the ex-Gunners shot-stopper despite already having both Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga on their books.

Another player who Everton are looking at according to The Mirror is Fulham midfielder Anguissa.

The Cameroon international has been ever-present for Scott Parker’s side this season, playing in 30 of their 34 Premier League games.

  • WOLVES 2 BRIGHTON 1

Lewis Dunk went from hero to zero as Brighton missed out on the chance to guarantee their Premier League survival.

The Seagulls skipper thumped in a header from a corner after just 13 minutes to give the visitors the lead at Molineux.

But after coming close to adding a second in the first half, the second started in nightmare fashion for the centre-back.

With Fabio Silva racing clear, he cynically dragged the striker down and was duly given his marching orders by Jon Moss.

The ten men’s resistance was finally broken 14 minutes from time as substitute Adama Traore played a neat one-two with Silva and fired in.

And as the clock hit 90, Morgan Gibbs-White smashed in a dramatic winner minutes after missing a sitter.

Neal Maupay was sent off for foul and abusive language after the full-time whistle to compound more misery on a torrid afternoon for Graham Potter’s side.

  • NOT DANE YET

Zinedine Zidane has backed under-fire star Eden Hazard to turn his career around at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Hazard has endured a torrid two-year spell marred by injury at Real ever since his £90million move from Chelsea.

It all got worse for the Belgium international on Wednesday after Los Blancos’ miserable Champions League elimination to Chelsea, who beat them 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The 30-year-old was caught having a laugh with former team-mate Kurt Zouma after the whistle and was derided by the club’s faithful as well as the Spanish press.

Hazard has since apologised for the incident but his position at Real is becoming increasingly untenable as Football Espana claim that he is “no longer an untouchable asset” for Zidane’s side.

The Real boss said: “Eden Hazard has said sorry about [the Zouma incident] the other day. He did it well, it wasn’t his intention to hurt anyone.

“That’s the most important thing. Eden is a Real Madrid player and he’ll compete for Real Madrid.”

  • UNITED V VILLA TEAM NEWS

The teams for today’s Premier League match between Manchester United and Aston Villa are in.

    Kick-off is at 2:05pm.

  • BISSOUMA HANDS IN REQUEST

Brighton’s Yves Bissouma has handed in a transfer request, according to the Sunday Times.

The midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, has been in excellent form this season – making 32 Premier League appearances.

The 24-year-old is believed to be keen on playing Champions League football, which may hamper Arsenal’s chances.

He is expected to cost around £30million.

  • SMOKE AND MAR-RORS

Neymar has left former club Barcelona feeling ‘betrayed and used’ after signing a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports.

The Brazilian has been linked with a return to the Catalan giants four years after departing for a world record fee.

But those rumours were quashed earlier this week when Neymar signed a new deal with the French champions.

The contract extension, which will see him earn £500,000 per week, keeps him at the Parc des Princes until 2025.

And according to RAC1, Neymar’s decision to snub Barcelona for PSG has left those on the board of the Spanish giants feeling disgruntled.

  • POMPEY COULD MISS OUT

Portsmouth are currently losing 1-0 to Accrington and are set to miss out on a place in the League One play-offs.

With rivals Oxford winning 2-0, Pompey will probably need to win today’s game if they are to finish sixth and keep their promotion hopes alive.

  • ALAN NIXON EXCLUSIVE

Manchester City lead the race for powerful young Espanyol striker Mateo Fernandez.

Fernandez, 17, was born in Spain but his family are English and he may be moving back to the UK for his next move.

The teenager qualifies for both countries.

He is seen by City as a player they can bring through because he is physically strong and technically good.

Pep Guardiola is believed to be looking for striker reinforcements with the club’s all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero set to leave this summer.

  • ICYMI – AGUERO’S FAILED PANENKA

Sergio Aguero had a moment to forget yesterday as his failed panenka cost Manchester City at the Etihad.

With the hosts 1-0 up, the striker’s risky effort failed and Chelsea came back to win 2-1.

It’s unlikely Aguero will try it again in the Champions League final – if he’s selected.

  • ALAN NIXON EXCLUSIVE

Manchester United are set to miss out on the signing of Dundee United whizkid Kerr Smith.

Aston Villa are now leading the race for the highly-rated centre-half.

The 16-year-old looks to be heading to Villa Park rather than Old Trafford at the end of the season.

He could join Villa in the summer for around £500,000 down, plus extras.

Smith has been to United to train for a week.

And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side felt they were in the driving seat to secure his signature.

However, there may be a clearer pathway to the first team at Villa.

  • ICYMI – DERBY SURVIVE

Derby County survived relegation to League One on a dramatic final day in the Championship.

As Rotherham failed to beat Cardiff, Wayne Rooney’s side’s 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday was enough to stay up and relegate their opponents.

The Millers and the Owls will be joined by Wycombe in the third tier next season.

Here’s the moment Derby’s Championship status was confirmed…

  • ALAN NIXON EXCLUSIVE

Watford are in talks with Colombian striker Rafael Borre about joining the Premier League new boys on a free.

Borre is leaving Argentine side River Plate – where he played in the Copa Libertadores final in 2019 – and wants to come back to Europe.

The 25-year-old was with Atletico Madrid early in his career before heading back to South America for more regular action.

Watford boss Xisco Munoz is looking for a couple of new strikers and Borre would fit in neatly with his limited budget.

The Hornets signed Borre’s countryman Carlos Sanchez in the promotion run-in and could land the forward.

Borre has other Premier League interest and Atletico would also take him back, although he would not be guaranteed a starting place again in LaLiga.

Watford’s recruitment drive comes after they finished the season second in the Championship to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

  • DOWN THE STAN

Stan Kroenke’s offer to pay their Uefa fine from his own pocket could leave Arsenal with LESS money to spend this summer.

Kroenke, along with his fellow American owners at Liverpool and Manchester United, promised to meet the initial £1.44million European Super League fine – plus five per cent of the club’s next season of European cash earnings – from his personal funds.

But finance specialists warned such payments would be deemed as “owner funding” in Financial Fair Play calculations.

One expert explained: “If Kroenke pays from his own funds, that is deemed an owner expense.

“It means Arsenal’s next income will be reduced and will have an impact on the amount they are allowed to spend on players.

“While the Arsenal fans may be welcoming his decision now, they might not be so impressed if they discover they will have less to spend on players as a direct result.”

  • ALAN NIXON EXCLUSIVE

Conor Gallagher is set to make his fan club wait and try to crack it at Chelsea next season.

Midfielder Gallagher is heading back to Blues after a season on loan at West Brom.

The 21-year-old has shone while at the Hawthorns despite their relegation struggle.

He has played 28 times in all competitions for the Baggies and confirmed his Premier League potential.

Gallagher’s displays have caught admiring glances from elsewhere.

And a host of top-flight sides were hoping to secure his services for next season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United have been tracking his progress closely.

Crystal Palace are keen to bring the ace across the capital to Selhurst Park in the summer.

And Newcastle are also on alert to take him either permanently or on loan from Chelsea.

But Gallagher has other ideas and aims to force his way into boss Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

  • WHAT A GOAL

Bet he’s delighted the camera was on!

  • ICYMI – ERIKSEN WANTS TO STAY

Christian Eriksen has revealed he is desperate to STAY at Inter Milan just six months after begging the club to sell him.

Spurs, Manchester United, Wolves and Leicester were all rumoured to be in for the Danish star earlier this season.

But now after finding his feet under the Italian and helping the club win their first Serie A crown in 11 years, Eriksen is desperate to help ‘build something beautiful’ at the San Siro.

On his rocky start to life at Inter, Eriksen told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I was willing to learn new things when I arrived. I hadn’t understood I had to follow’s Conte system all the time.

“Before, I was free to make decisions based on what I saw. It had a lot to do with intuition. Now, there is a general plan we have to follow… we must be ready, know where our team-mates are and where they can move. I had to learn all this and adapt to a different pace.

“We spoke in January, and I’ve proved what I am able to do. I have no revenge to take, I just play football. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn’t. This is a sport that evolves quickly, almost every week. Six months ago I was living in a different situation, now we have a trophy and I can say I am really happy here at Inter.

“It was hard to win this title, but we did it with four games remaining. It’s a good starting point, now we can begin a new cycle… it will be hard to win nine titles in a row, but we’ll try to build something beautiful. Conte is so important for each one of us, also for the way we play. We follow him and you see that on the pitch.

“Everyone is so happy to have won with him.. but his stay is not up to me – it depends on the club and him.”

  • TITLE TARGET

Magda Eriksson wants Chelsea to bring their ‘A’ game to beat Reading in a duel to determine if they retain their WSL crown.

Eriksson, 27, said: “I’m really proud of the team, and what we’ve achieved this season so far.

“But we’re 100% aware that the job isn’t done, we still have a big, big assignment, and a big task today.

“We know Reading are a tough team, and they’re going to bring their ‘A’ game and try to ruin things for us, so we know there’s a lot left to do

“But I’ve been really, really proud of how we dealt with the season.

“It’s been a difficult season. We’ve not been able to see our loved ones because of Covid, we’ve not been able to go home.

“I think the way we’ve taken care of each other this season has been amazing and a big part of the success for sure.”

  • ROYAL BLUE

Emma Hayes hopes Blues fan Fara Williams will back Chelsea becoming WSL champs even if they trounce Reading.

Hayes, 44, said: “I admire Fara immensely for achieving what she’s done with the setbacks she’s had.

“She’s got a great football mind, a great understanding of football tactics,

“She has a love and appreciation for that and I think she will be outstanding if she goes into coaching.

“I don’t know what she will be doing [after she stops playing] but I certainly encourage that she does.

“I think it’s fitting that she finishes a career at the club she started at and I know she’s a Chelsea fan.

“I hope that, even if she’s on the losing team on Sunday, the other team she supports is winning the title.”
