Harry Kane’s Carabao Cup final fate set to be decided this weekend after scans on ankle injury

TOTTENHAM boss Jose Mourinho expects to learn tomorrow whether Harry Kane has any hope of playing in the Carabao Cup Final.

It is understood initial assessments on the ankle injury that Kane suffered in injury time of Friday night’s 2-2 draw at Everton took place today.

But Spurs were waiting for the swelling to go down before sending the England captain for a scan that would deliver a clearer verdict.

Like Tottenham fans everywhere, Mourinho is waiting with bated breath to find out the extent of the damage and whether Kane has a chance of being fit for Sunday’s Wembley clash with Manchester City.

Mourinho said: “Even Harry doesn’t know much. He just had that negative feeling that brought him out of the game.

“I believe that probably Sunday will be a day to have a different view and to try to anticipate what can happen next week.”

Kane was able to walk to the Spurs team coach after the Everton game with what looked like only light strapping on his right ankle.

The Premier League’s top scorer then flew back to London from Merseyside with the rest of the Spurs squad.

‘INCREDIBLE CONSISTENCY’

But Mourinho and the club could be forgiven for fearing the worst given Kane’s history of ankle problems.

The striker himself was shaking his head as he limped off the Goodison Park turf with barely a week before he was due to spearhead Tottenham’s bid to win a first trophy since 2008.

Kane grabbed both goals against Everton with clinical finishes to take his tally for the season to 33, including 21 in the Premier League.

England and Spurs team-mate Eric Dier said: “When Harry gets in that position, from behind I have no doubt he is going to do the job.

“He is as reliable as they come, incredible consistency over many years.

“He keeps going and it’s a credit to him and the work he puts in and his mentality.”
