STEVE CLARKE’s Scotland grabbed their first win of 2022 World Cup qualifying with a comfortable triumph over the Faroe Islands at Hampden Park.
The 57-year-old made three changes to the side that laboured to a 1-1 draw in Israel on Sunday.
And one of those changes, Che Adams, grabbed his first international goal as the Scots made it a comfortable night’s work.
Aston Villa star John McGinn opened the scoring in just the seventh minute, sweeping home Kieran Tierney’s cut-back following a neat passing move.
The midfielder affectionately dubbed ‘Meatball’ then made it 2-0 early in the second-half, producing a bullet header after another accurate Tierney delivery.
Adams’ big moment followed just seven minutes later, when he nonchalantly ball-rolled on the edge of the box after receiving a pass from Tierney, rifling home an impressive low drive.
Ryan Fraser then grabbed his third goal in his last three appearances for Scotland, nodding home Andrew Robertson’s cross with 20 minutes remaining.
With Denmark thrashing Austria in Vienna, Clarke’s men moved up to second, but will pause their World Cup qualifying campaign until after the Euros, when they face a daunting trip to Copenhagen in September.
Following his hat-trick of assists, Tierney said: “It’s a good result, we needed that tonight. We needed a win and a clean sheet so we can’t ask for much more.
“It’s the perfect way to end a tough camp but probably a successful camp too. It’s been good.
“I thought I was not bad! I had more time to go forward and I enjoyed it.
“Everyone knows I like being high and wide and putting crosses in so I got to do that tonight.
“The gaffer probably wanted me to sit a bit more but i couldn’t help myself!”
