Kevin De Bruyne ‘annoyed’ at Man City contract offer and ‘felt they prioritised huge Lionel Messi transfer package’

KEVIN DE BRUYNE is ‘annoyed’ over Manchester City’s offer of a new contract, according to reports.

The Belgian superstar’s deal expires in 2023 but the club are eager to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

De Bruyne, 29, last signed a contract in January 2018 worth in the region of £250,000-a-week.

The Athletic claim City’s latest offer is LOWER than what he currently pockets due to the effect the coronavirus pandemic has had on football.

However, De Bruyne’s frustration stems from speculation that Man City are preparing a huge lucrative wage packet for Lionel Messi.

The Barcelona superstar is out of contract at the Nou Camp at the end of the season and Man City are set to rival Paris Saint-Germain for his signature.

Messi’s pay packet at the Etihad could be worth over £500,000-a-week.

Man City correspondent Sam Lee said on David Ornstein’s Youtube show: “De Bruyne is still most likely going to sign a Man City contract but he is annoyed.

“I have it on very good sources that De Bruyne had been complaining to his Belgium team-mates that City’s offer to him was slightly less than he is on already – with all things considered.

“But the main thing was they were willing to pay Messi this amount of money and he deserves a bit more after everything he’s done.

“I’m sure they’ll give De Bruyne what he’s worth.”

De Bruyne currently represents himself and said in November how the player and club ‘were not very far in negotiations.’

He told  VTM Nieuws: “Now I do it myself. I would like to stay with Man City, so it is not a difficult situation.

“If I didn’t want to stay, it would take someone to mediate.

“I am happy in Manchester. I am at a good club. Good owners. Good club.

“We are chatting a bit, but we are not very far in the negotiations.”
