England set to lose out on Jamal Musiala with Germany planning to hand Bayern Munich wonderkid, 17, call up in March

ENGLAND are set to lose out on Bayern Munich wonderkid Jamal Musiala, with Germany planning a senior call-up.

The 17-year-old, who left Chelsea for Bayern in 2019, has been in stunning form for the German champions.

Having become their youngest ever player last season, Musiala is now a regular – having appeared 20 times this term for Hansi Flick’s side.

Born in Stuttgart, but having gone to school in Croydon between the ages of seven and 16, and with a Nigerian father and German mother – Musiala is eligible for all three countries.

He has featured for both at youth level, but most recently turned out for England’s Under-21 side last November.

According to The Times, however, Musiala is leaning towards choosing Germany.

Boss Joachim Low wants to hand the attacking midfielder a senior debut in March, when Die Mannschaft face Iceland, Romania and North Macedonia in World Cup qualifiers.

England, meanwhile, plan to select Musiala for their Under-21s again, as they get their Uefa Under-21 Championship campaign underway.

Senior Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate will not hand out competitive debuts simply to secure a player’s future.

The German FA had appeared to ‘concede defeat’ when Musiala appeared for the Young Lions back in November.

But club boss Hansi Flick, as well as team-mate Serge Gnabry, have worked to convince him to play for the country of his birth.

Musiala will hold talks with Low in the coming weeks.

He made two appearances in total for England’s Under-21s, scoring in the latter against Albania.
