Harry Kane suffers ankle injuries in massive blow for Tottenham as striker is taken off at half-time against Liverpool

TOTTENHAM suffered an injury scare after Harry Kane was subbed off at half-time against Liverpool with an ankle issue.

The Spurs captain received treatment twice during the first period and looked in severe discomfort on the pitch.

Kane, 27, was hobbling in the final few moments of the first half before the referee called time on the opening 45 minutes.

After the game, Jose Mourinho revealed: “He is injured in both ankles.

“But he says with both very painful and very sore and getting big swelling on both ankles, he couldn’t.

“He is a guy with a good sacrifice spirit and can fight against pain but it’s difficult for him.”

With the hosts 1-0 behind through Roberto Firmino, Kane failed to emerge for the second period and was replaced by Erik Lamela.

Kane is now likely to go for scans before determining the severity of his injury.

But the fact the problem involves Kane’s ankle will prove a huge concern for boss Mourinho.

He missed a large chunk of the 2018-19 season with ankle ligament damage.

It was his third major ankle issue in three years and he will be hoping his latest injury won’t be a recurrence of a set-back that has kept him sidelined for months in the past.

After his last ankle injury in January 2019, Kane was pictured on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

If Kane is sidelined for a lengthy period, it will cast a major doubt over Spurs’ Champions League ambitions.

The 27-year-old has scored 12 goals in 19 league appearances this season.

But Tottenham do not have a wealth of strikers and it could mean Carlos Vinicius may have the chance to impress.

The Brazilian, who is on loan from Benfica, has made just four Premier League substitute appearances this season.

Michael Owen says that Harry Kane will not leave Tottenham because of his huge transfer fee and age
