Tyson finally gets chance to exact revenge on Douglas 30 years after shock upset

JAMES ‘BUSTER’ DOUGLAS is up for a rematch with Mike Tyson – 30 years on from when the pair first fought.

Iron Mike was knocked out by 42-1 underdog Douglas when the pair locked horns in 1990.

But Tyson could now get his revenge against Douglas, who retired from boxing in 1999.

The 60-year-old has hinted he would make a return to the ring to face old rival Tyson.

He told USA TODAY Sports: “Sure, I would welcome the opportunity.

“Being a prizefighter all those years and still feeling pretty good today, you always feel you got one more fight in you.’’

Tyson had an incredible record of 37-0 including 33 knockouts when he came up against Douglas.

Despite dethroning the champ, the 60-year-old claims he has never officially discussed a rematch.

He added: “I’ve been asked about it in casual conversation.

“They always ask, ‘Why didn’t you guys have a rematch?’

“It was just never presented really, as far as a rematch. It was often mentioned. That’s about it.’’

Tyson, 54, came out of retirement earlier this month to face Roy Jones Jr, 51, in an exhibition bout.

Iron Mike, who had been in retirement since 2005, confirmed after the draw that he will fight again.

Speaking about the fight, Douglas said: “It was pretty competitive.

“A couple of guys that were past their prime but put a good effort in there. Entertaining.’’

But Douglas, 60, is not the only ex-fighter that has been tipped to take on Tyson next.

SunSport have pulled together a list of the five most likely options.
