Jack Wilshere reckons Arsenal dumping Ozil is reason for Aubameyang goal drought as ex-star suggests for January recall

JACK WILSHERE believes Mesut Ozil is the man to get Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang firing again.

Unfortunately, the German was not included in Mikel Arteta’s squads for either the Premier League or Europa League this season.

Arteta made the decision to dump Ozil for the campaign, insisting it was ‘the best for the club’.

Yet Arsenal have suffered going forward this season as a result, with captain Aubameyang particularly hurt.

He has netted just once from open play this season, with that goal coming in September.

Aubameyang’s only other Premier League strike was a penalty against Manchester United.

Wilshere, a free agent after leaving West Ham in the summer, is reckons the Gunners’ frontline is feeling the effects of Ozil’s absense.

And he has urged Arteta to put any problems to one side and include Ozil in his squad when registration re-opens in January.

Wilshere told Sky Sports: “I think he’d be a big player in that team.

“I would love to see Ozil play in that team under Arteta but obviously that’s not happening at the moment.

“He could get on the ball and feed the likes of Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

“I loved played with him. He was a top player.

“It’s a shame but what is happening is happening and no one knows, but I’m sure everyone will find out one day.”
