THAT’S A WRAP
Thanks for joining us this evening; take a look at our match report here.
HAT-TRICK BAMFORD
Just about catching our breath after that second half.
BOSS SPEAKS
Speaking of Grealish’s two close chances this evening, Smith added: “It wasn’t his night tonight and they were the moments that we need in games like this.
“I felt we were a little surprised at being behind and we didn’t handle it very well, but I don’t want to take credit away from Leeds as they were very good .
“We’re disappointed we didn’t make history tonight, but we’ll learn from this and be prepared for our next game.”
MORE TO BE DEAN
Speaking after the game, Aston Villa boss Dean Smith said: “It was frustrating as we lost our 100 per cent record.
“But it was a fairly even first half in terms of chances, but we didn’t take advantage of some moments.
“Jack went on a really good run, but decent keeping stopped him
“I think we got too disillusioned and disappointed by their goals.
“Though I’m disappointed with the result, I’ve just said to the players that we should be very pleased to have got 12 points from five games.”
SHOWING HIS CARDS
Pascal Struijk was taken off after just 19 minutes this evening, when asked about replacing him, Bielsa said: “He got a yellow card early on and there was a lot of agility and mobility in the centre, so I wanted to take him off as a result.
“After the yellow card he had another foul that was at the limit, this worried me.”
BOSS SPEAKS
Speaking after the game, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa said: “It was a good performance, better in the second half, but the first half was also good.
“We defended well, we attacked well and we had the luck to score before they did, as they had a few chances to score too.”
Bielsa was very pleased with Bamford’s performance which resulted in a hat-trick, he added: “I’m very happy for him, apart from that, they were all very nice goals, in fact they were some of the nicest goals he’s scored for us.”
MYTHTAKE
Bamford silenced the idea that Bielsa was a myth, in his post-match interview.
He said: “Someone was saying in the press that Bielsa is a myth!
“But I think we showed everyone that Leeds are here to compete.”
MAN OF THE MATCH
Speaking on BT Sport, man of the match Patrick Bamford said: “This is what you dream of growing up, this means the world to me.
“I was frustrated with my two efforts in the first half, but I knew I’d get another chance.
“I’ve got a manager who believes in me, as long as I’m working hard he’ll continue to believe in me.
“Villa are on a good run and they’re a good team- we’ve showed everyone that Leeds are here to compete.”
PAT ON THE BACK
Leeds are now up to third in the table following that impressive performance and Patrick Bamford has his hands on the match ball, thanks to three very different goals.
Villa may have silenced the defending champions, but the newly promoted team were just too quick on the counter.
