He was a hit with the charity’s workers in Manchester — the day after MPs defeated his bid to extend school meals.

This week, Marcus Rashford blasted Tory MPs for making kids feel like they ‘don’t matter’ after losing his bid to get the nation’s most vulnerable youngsters free school meals this winter.

MPs have rejected a Labour motion to extend free school meals over the school holidays until Easter 2021 by 322 votes to 261, majority 61.

The Manchester United star had free school meals as he grew up.

After the vote, he shared a lengthy message on Twitter.

“A significant number of children are going to bed tonight not only hungry but feeling like they do not matter,” he said.

“We must stop stigmatising, judging and pointing fingers. Our views are being clouded by political affiliation. This is not politics, this is humanity.”

And he called on No10 to “sit around the table” again to come up with a new plan, adding: “I don’t have the education of a politician – many on Twitter have made that clear today – but I have a social education having lived through this.”

He finished the post: “These children are the future of this country. They are not just another statistic.

“And for as long as they don’t have a voice, they will have mine. You have my word on that.”
