Keane was on punditry duty with ITV for England’s home friendly with Wales on Thursday night.

But asked for his thoughts on his old team after their embarrassing 6-1 defeat at home to Spurs, the Irishman was typically forthright – suggesting his former team-mate will be fighting to keep his post.

Keane said: “The performance against Spurs was disgraceful.

“We’ve all had bad days in football but I thought literally it was a disgrace to the badge some of the players’ performances, too many bluffers.

“And ultimately I think they will cost Ole his job.

“They players he’s got there, yeah they will.

“They threw the previous manager [Jose Mourinho] under the bus, they’ll do exactly the same to Ole.”

Despite taking a second-minute lead from the penalty spot, United conceded quick-fire goals to Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min.

Anthony Martial’s red card was followed by Harry Kane’s first and Son made it 4-1 before the break.

Serge Aurier and Kane finished off the thrashing after the break.

Red Devils left-back Luke Shaw admitted he was ’embarrassed’ to be on the pitch and said the team ‘gave up’ after the sending off.

He said: “When we went down to 10 men maybe we gave up, there wasn’t that character on the pitch. We were too quiet and naive. There was many mistakes, we need to do more.

“It’s embarrassing. I was embarrassed on the pitch. We need a long hard look at ourselves.”

United legend Gary Neville pulled no punches in a damning assessment, blasting the players as ‘spineless’ and ‘absolutely pathetic’.
