Edinson Cavani to Man Utd transfer confirmed as ‘true’ by agent with medical set for today ahead of £200k-a-week move

EDINSON CAVANI’S agent has confirmed the star is moving to Manchester United on a deal worth a reported £200,000-a-week.

The Uruguay striker has left Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer and is set to finalise his switch to Old Trafford tonight.

His brother, also his agent, the former Uruguay international Walter Guglielmone told Futbol Insider: “It’s true. There is an agreement.”

Cavani, who hasn’t played since March, will undergo a medical at United later today.

It is not yet known how many years his contract is for, but initial thoughts are one year with a possible one year extension which can be triggered by the club.

The striker, 33, spent seven years at PSG after previously playing in Italy for Napoli and Palermo.

But he has always fancied a crack at the Prem – after scoring 200 goals for the French club.

Leeds were also pursuing the experienced forward.

He also held talks with Benfica, he claimed.

But United’s huge pay deal, a vast sum for a player who turns 34 in February, paved the way for his transfer.

United hope he can have a similar spell to that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who struck 29 goals in his single season at Old Trafford – at 35.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been looking for a big striker to lead the line since flogging Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan for £73million.

The Uruguayan will play up top with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood playing in the channels either side.

Solskjaer is now targeting a centre-half to complete his summer shopping list.

Previously only £35m Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek arrived, leaving United well short as they try and mount a serious title challenge.

The Norwegian said the club are being picky: “It’s much more complex than just pointing a finger at a player and saying ‘he’s got the quality’.

“When you sign players you go into a thorough process to make sure the ones you bring in are right for the club.

“It’s easy to pick out the best players in the world. Every club knows about them.”

Cavani’s arrival raises doubts United will complete the signing of Jadon Sancho by tomorrow.

Borussia Dortmund want £109m and Red Devils chiefs don’t want to pay that much.
