Where Edinson Cavani fits on Man Utd pay scale with three stars on more despite mega wages for veteran striker

EDINSON CAVANI is set to become one of Manchester United’s highest paid players.

The Uruguayan striker is on the verge of a shock move to Old Trafford.

The desperate Red Devils have turned to the former Napoli and PSG man having failed to land their top priority targets, most notably Jadon Sancho.

With his contract at PSG having expired at the end of last season, the 33-year-old can join the club for nothing.

But that doesn’t mean he comes cheap.

It’s understood Cavani will be paid £200,000-a-week, or £10.4million-a-year.

With Ed Woodward set to give the veteran a two-year deal, the risky transfer will set the Red Devils back a total of £20.8m in wages over the length of the contract.

TOP EARNERS

While Cavani is on mega-money, his pay will still fall short of three of his Manchester United team-mates.

David De Gea is the best paid player at the club on a whopping £375,000-a-week.

Paul Pogba, on £290,000, and Anthony Martial, on £250,000, are the other two who will be banking more than Cavani.

The Uruguayan – who hasn’t played since March and last scored in February – will find himself level with Marcus Rashford’s wages.

The move is a risky one, but sources say the top brass view the deal as like the move that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic become a terrace idol after arriving in the latter stages of his career.

The big Swede struck 29 goals in his single season at Old Trafford – at 35.

And United believe Cavani will be a boost to the development of their young strikers.

He certainly arrives with some incredible career stats behind him.

In 138 appearances for Napoli from 2010 to 2013 he scored 104 goals.

He then spent seven years with PSG and managed 200 goals in 301 appearances to become their all-time top scorer.

Manchester United will be keeping their fingers crossed he can produce a similar return in the Premier League and prove himself worth the money.
