United were dominated by the hosts in the first 45 minutes before Neal Maupay opened the scoring for the hosts.
Just minutes later the visitors equalised on the stroke of half-time when Lewis Dunk put through his own net against the run of play.
And Solskjaer’s frustration obviously reached a tipping point as he demanded more from Rashford.
After the contest, the Norwegian said: “He was getting better and better but I had a little bit of a go at him just halfway through the first half for a tackle he evaded.
“But I think his reaction, his sharpness is getting better.”
Rashford redeemed himself in the second half when he scored a sensational solo strike to bag United’s second of the content.
Solskjaer added: “He is more direct, his confidence is getting there, he scored a great goal and it was a great run and great finish for the one which was disallowed as well. I think Marcus will really kick on this season.”

Maupay was adjudged to have handballed Harry Maguire’s header from a corner minutes after Solly March thought he snatched a late equaliser.
United rode their luck at times with Brighton hitting the woodwork five times.
Solskjaer said of his side’s performance: “We got away with one.
“When they equalised I thought that’s two points lost.
“Maybe one point was what we deserved – I don’t think we deserved more but the character we showed deserved more.”
