Erling Haaland claims he needs to be MORE clinical and Borussia Dortmund star says he could have scored 50 last season

ERLING HAALAND says he needs to be “more clinical, more ruthless” and “could easily have scored over 50 last season”.

Haaland settled straight into life at Borussia Dortmund scoring 18 times in 21 games for the Bundesliga outfit.

Erling Haaland continues to be prolific for Borussia Dortmund – but has claimed he needs to be more clinical

However, despite his incredible goalscoring prowess, the 20-year-old is always looking to “get better” as he heads into his first full season at the club.

He clearly means what he says as he’s got off to the perfect league campaign scoring two goals in the opening two fixtures in the Bundesliga.

Speaking to local Dortmund newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten, Haaland said: “I still need to become a much better footballer, that’s what drives me on every day.

“My finishing needs to improve, I need to be more clinical, more ruthless. I also need to get better in linking up with my team-mates. I know that.”

Haaland says he’s always looking at ways to get better, and spends a good amount of time analysing his performance: “I watch replays of my goals quite a lot, I’m constantly trying to learn more about goalscoring.

“I don’t only watch the goals I score, I watch other players’ as well: how and where do they score? What’s their position before the ball arrives? How do they move?

“I analyse all these little details that could help me to score more goals. So I’ve watched all 44 of my goals from last season quite a lot.

“I actually think about all the chances I missed, I could easily have scored over 50 goals last season.

“I don’t want that to sound arrogant – it’s actually a good thing because it shows me that there’s room for improvement.

“I’m going to try to work on a few things so that I keep getting better.”

Dortmund will be hoping that Haaland is on top form for their next fixture, they face bitter rivals Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup Final on Wednesday.

Both teams are going into the game off the back of defeats, Dortmund losing to Augsburg and Hoffenheim thrashing Bayern 4-1.
