Tottenham ‘make enquiry to sign Benfica striker Haris Seferovic on loan transfer’ to ease pressure on Harry Kane

TOTTENHAM are interested in signing Benfica striker Haris Seferovic on loan, according to reports.

Reports in Portugal are linking Spurs with Haris Seferovic

But the Portuguese boss is desperate to also sign a backup striker before the window’s October 5 deadline.

And according to Record, the 57-year-old could turn to his native Portugal in order to find a solution.

Their report claims that Spurs could look to take Seferovic, 28, on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.

The 66-cap international has managed more than ten goals just once in his career, having represented teams in Italy, Spain, Germany and Switzerland before arriving in Portugal.

He had by far his best-ever season in 2018-19, however, when he netted 23 times in 29 league matches as his side romped to the title.

But he was more goal-shy last time out, notching five in 30.

Benfica are among Europe’s biggest spending clubs this summer, signing attackers Darwin Nunez, Luca Waldschmidt and Everton Soares – with the former becoming their most-expensive ever recruit.

And while Seferovic started their 2-1 Champions League defeat to PAOK, he was relegated to the bench for their league opener against Famalicao.

Spurs have dealt with Benfica in the recent past, having signed Gedson Fernandes on an 18-month loan deal in January.

Seferovic is the latest striker to be linked with Spurs this month, with Wolfsburg frontman Wout Weghorst having been mooted yesterday.

Asked at the weekend about whether he’d still like a new striker, Mourinho did not shy away.

He said: “Yes. For a season like this we need a good squad and we need two players for each position. So there you go.

“Gareth, when fit and in condition, is one of the top players in Europe, and Sergio was amazing last season in Sevilla.

“So if you ask me if I’m happy to have these players I have to say yes I am but there are other things that make a team and make a squad. A squad is a puzzle, a squad is a puzzle and in this moment our squad is not a puzzle and that’s a problem that we have to understand.”
