Jamie Redknapp tips Thiago Silva to be Chelsea’s best transfer ahead of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz

THIAGO SILVA could be Chelsea’s best transfer of the summer, according to Jamie Redknapp.

The Sky pundit heaped praise on his cousin Frank Lampard for bringing the Brazilian in and reckons he could prove more valuable than other new signings Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz.

That is according to Jamie Redknapp – cousin of Chelsea boss Frank Lampard

Silva, 35, signed a one-year deal with the option of another year at Stamford Bridge last week and Redknapp can’t wait to see him in action.

He said: “That might end up being the best signing for them because of his experience.

“It might not be the most exciting one but with their young players, sometimes you need someone that can come in and just calm everyone down.

“He’s got amazing know-how, playing at the top throughout his career for the likes of PSG and AC Milan.

“He’s a winner, he’s played in the Champions League and captained his country.

“He will be a brilliant addition. It will be interesting to see who Lampard sees as his best defensive partner.”

Werner, 24, arrived in a £53million – including add-ons – transfer from RB Leipzig in June and has already scored his first Chelsea goal in their friendly at Brighton.

Ziyech’s £36.5million deal was confirmed in February but saw the 27-year-old remain with Ajax until the end of the campaign.

And Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, 21, has reportedly left Germany’s Nations League camp to complete his £90m switch to the Blues.

And Redknapp has been impressed with their business so far.

He added: “Chelsea are on the verge of building something special.

“It will take time and there will be ups and downs.

“You’ve got Ziyech who can play on the wings and Havertz is a super talent who can play in a number of positions.

“He would bring goals, pace, ability. That would be a great signing, not just for now but for the future.

“It would be a great addition to what is already an exciting team.”
