American TV boss Henry Mauriss ‘ready to launch Newcastle takeover bid’ if proposed £300m deal with Saudis collapses

US MEDIA tycoon Henry Mauriss is reportedly gearing up to formally bid for Newcastle United – if the Saudi Royal Family’s planned purchase falls through.

Club officials believe the TV guru is prepared to move fast to seal a deal that would see him take ownership of the Tyneside giants from Mike Ashley.

The Premier League are yet to decide whether to approve the Saudi deal.

And a current takeover effort by Amanda Staveley’s group would have to fail prior to any other bid being considered.

This is due to Staveley’s group already signing and legally agreeing to a deal with Ashley.

Staveley is reported to have had a £300million offer verbally accepted by the current Newcastle owner in April.

All the required parties, which include Staveley’s PCP Capital, the Reuben brothers, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, are believed to have received signatures to progress with the bid.

Checks by Premier League officials were expected to last around five weeks, but have since entered their second month.

This is due to queries over alleged connections between the Saudi Arabian government and Premier League games streaming illegally in the region.

Staveley’s associates are confident their proposals will eventually pass the Premier League’s review and conditions.

However, Mauriss is rumoured to be ready to put his offer on the table, with the Telegraph claiming he has a team in place ready to seal a deal.

The Clear TV Media mogul has been observing the football set-up in the Premier League and is believed to have ideas on how to help Newcastle grow.

It’s claimed Mauriss is an admirer of the work of the Fenway Group and how his compatriots helped reversed Liverpool’s fortunes.

While details of the American tycoon’s entire wealth is unclear, it’s believed sources have confirmed he has the funds needed to move with a bid.
