THERE are eight different words for ‘inevitable’ in the German language.
Which is just as well given Bayern Munich’s superiority in the Bundesliga, and Robert Lewandowski’s dominance of the scoring charts.

It was inevitable that Bavaria’s footballing powerhouse should flatten relegation-threatened Fortuna Dusseldorf to soar ten points clear at the top, and close in on an eighth straight title.
And inevitable that Lewandowski should grab a couple to take his season’s tally to a mighty 43 goals.
Dusseldorf had been the only one of the Bundesliga’s 18 clubs that the Polish centre-forward had failed to score against – but now he has a full house.
It may have been pioneering and inspirational for the Germans to lead the jailbreak from football’s coronavirus lockdown – but there is no intrigue at the top of the table, certainly not since Bayern’s 1-0 win at second-placed Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

This was Bayern’s 10th straight win and their 18th in a 19-match unbeaten run – the only question now is whether they can add the Champions League crown too.
They have the class, pace, assuredness in possession and the blend of youth and experience to suggest they just might.
And with Bayern having put ten goals past Tottenham and Chelsea on two visits to London this season, we shouldn’t be too sniffy about the way they muller their domestic rivals.
The last thing Uwe Rosler’s Fortuna side needed was to hand Bayern a leg-up – but they did just that on 15 minutes when a Benjamin Pavard shot was heading wide, only for Danish defender Zanka to turn into his own net.
DAVIES STARS AGAIN
The can-can music blared around an empty Allianz Arena to mock Zanka’s moment of farce.
French defender Pavard was soon on the scoresheet with a downward header from a corner.
Three minutes before the break, Lewandowski rounded off a sumptuous move to ram home from a Thomas Muller lay-off.
After the restart, Lewandowski was at it again – netting with a rakish back-heel from Serge Gnabry’s cross.
Then came the ‘Roadrunner’, Bayern’s lightning Canadian full-back Alphonso Davies to win possession and plough through a chaotic Dusseldorf defence to score the fifth.
Against Dortmund, the 19-year-old Davies had been clocked at 22mph – fast enough to set off a speed camera outside a primary school – and this was another impressive display from the whizkid.
Bayern are racing towards another title at a similar rate of knots.
Unvermeidlich, unausweichlich, unumganglich, zwangslaufig, unweigerlich, notwendig, unabwendbar, unausbleiblich – as they say in Germany.
