Cristiano Ronaldo exempt from Juve’s £7.9m-a-year salary cap despite his colossal £522k-a-WEEK wages

CRISTIANO RONALDO will not have his enormous £522,000-a-week wages cut, despite Juventus becoming the first club to impose a salary cap.

The Serie A champions are hoping to cut costs amid the disastrous financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

And one of these measures is to ensure that from next season, they will only hand out contracts worth a maximum of £151,000-a-week.

According to Corriere di Torino, this is to protect the “financial solidity” of the club.

This will see a radical shift in their transfer policy, having spent big on a number of big-name stars in recent years.

The likes of Paulo Dybala, Aaron Ramsey, Gonzalo Higuain and Adrien Rabiot all earn more than the new cap – but will not see the salaries of their existing deals slashed.

There is also talk that the new restrictions will not apply to exceptional case Ronaldo – who has two years remaining on his eye-watering contract.

Juve’s first-team stars agreed to a four-month wage deferral back in March, which will save the club around £80million up to the end of August.

This amount will be paid back to the players in future years, however.

While the measures have been deemed necessary for the future stability of the club – it has crippled their plans for the summer transfer window.

One of their primary targets was believed to be sealing a return for their former midfielder Paul Pogba from Manchester United.

But with the Frenchman earning around £290,000 a week at Old Trafford, it seems extremely unlikely that he would be willing to halve that in order to return to Turin.

Not every player is happy with Juve’s arrangements, with midfielder Rabiot reportedly staging a one-man protest by refusing to return to Turin despite the news that the club can use its training facilities again.
