Dillian Whyte ready to fight Povetkin in a ‘car park’, says Hearn as promoter reveals he has a trick up his sleeve

DILLIAN WHYTE is so desperate to return to action that he is willing to fight Alexander Povetkin in a car park.

The British heavyweight’s scrap with the Russian is likely to be the first major UK bout to go ahead behind closed doors.

The duo were initially braced to fight on May 2, but that was put back to July 4 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There has been talk of another push back but not if Whyte and Hearn can help it.

According to his promoter, the 32-year-old is itching to put on the gloves sooner rather than later.

Hearn told Sky Sports: “If we’re going to lose that live crowd, that visual impact, I want to replace it with something.

“I don’t want to replace it with four walls and a couple of lights, so I’ve got something lustrous planned which we will unveil over the next couple of weeks.

“Dillian [Whyte] said to me the other day, ‘We could just do it in a car park’, he actually meant it. He said, ‘No I’m serious, can’t we just put a ring in a car park and HAVE IT!’ I said, ‘Not quite…’

“Dillian wasn’t joking about fighting in a car park – it won’t be in a car park.

“I don’t know how we’re going to do it yet. But we have to come back with a bang. Whyte vs Povetkin, along with Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano, is a fight that I believe we will see at the end of July or early-August.”

Whyte will put his WBC mandatory title shot on the line against Povetkin, who has bounced back from his defeat against Anthony Joshua with a win over Hughie Fury and draw against Michael Hunter.

Taylor verses Serrano is being touted as one of the biggest fights in women’s history.

Undefeated Taylor puts four belts on the line against the Puerto Rican in a massive showdown.
