FORMER Liverpool midfielder Dominic Matteo has revealed the brilliant news that he has been given the all clear following brain tumour surgery.
The 45-year-old had spent the last six months dealing with “pain, fear and rehab” before announcing his recovery on social media.
A post that shows Matteo ringing the all clear bell was posted alongside the caption: “Yesterday I got THE phone call, the one I’ve been praying for… my brain scan is clear.
“After 6 months of fear, pain, rehab surgery and treatment. I’m healthy! It feels unreal!
“The LGI &St James hospital saved my life. They were simply incredible. Thank you will never be enough!”
His post has quickly gone viral with many former professionals commenting their delight at the news.
Danny Higginbotham, who he played alongside at Stoke, wrote: “Absolutely brilliant news mate. Delighted for you and your family.”
Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour added: “Fantastic news Dom.”
And Charlie Adam also wrote: “Great news.”
Matteo, who won six caps for Scotland, became seriously ill in November and immediately went under the knife.
A few weeks later he informed fans that he was “getting stronger” after beginning his recovery.
Matteo was born in Dumfries in Scotland but moved to Southport in Merseyside as a youngster, before he was spotted by Kenny Dalglish playing against the Kop icon’s son Paul.

He played 127 games for Liverpool between 1992 and 2000 under Roy Evans and Gerard Houllier.
He then made the switch to Leeds United where he played for four years as skipper, and scored against AC Milan at the San Siro during their march to the Champions League semi-finals in 2001.
Matteo also played for Blackburn Rovers under Mark Hughes and Stoke City under Tony Pulis before retiring in 2009, mainly due to injury.
