Burnley star Johann Berg Gudmundsson tackles boredom with football board game – and why don’t you try SunSport’s quiz?

JOHANN BERG GUDMUNDSSON has the perfect answer for families struggling with boredom during the lockdown.

And that is the board game which the Burnley and Iceland star helped to devise and market in his homeland.

‘Beint I Mark’ — roughly translated as ‘Straight On Goal’ — is a football quiz which can help while away the hours.

The Clarets midfielder, 29, said: “Myself and my friend who runs a big football website came up with the idea about doing a football quiz game.

“I felt it was a really good idea. We thought it would be something good for kids and adults as well.

“There are different levels, difficult ones and some easy, something the whole family could play together.

“It was a bit of fun to do outside of playing football.

“Doing the game was something a bit more creative. It sold quite well, a lot of friends came together to play it, particularly younger boys.”

Having been involved in creating the game, surely the former Charlton and AZ Alkmaar man must have hidden himself away in some questions?

He smiled: “Yes, there are questions that I am the answer to. Thankfully, I get those ones right!

“It’s just general football, the big leagues in Europe, the Icelandic league, our national team.

“There were a lot of Premier League questions, as that’s the one everyone watches in Iceland.

“There are some tough questions for people who want to test themselves.”

Here’s our football quiz. Can you name them?

  • 1. Who is the only player to record ten or more assists in six different PL seasons?
  • 2. Which player has scored most goals in the PL aged 30 or older (93) – all during the 1990s?
  • 3. Who holds the record for being sent off for the most different Prem clubs (5)?
  • 4. Which manager has overseen most 0-0s in PL history (64)?
  • 5. Who scored the last PL goal under Alex Ferguson in 2013?

Gudmundsson has stayed in the North West while football is on hold — but he likes to think his game might help kill time for his family and friends back home.

One of the nation’s Euro 2016 heroes said: “Back in Iceland the lockdown is not as strong as here, you can have as many as 20 together in a room.

“People can move a bit more freely. But hopefully some people might have brought it out to play.

“I think you could definitely still find it somewhere and I’ve got a few in my storage space at home in Iceland — so I could dig them out!

“The lads at Burnley found out about it. They are big into their football knowledge, maybe I’ll need to translate the questions for them.”

Gudmundsson has missed much of the season through injury — so is itching to get back if and when the Premier League resumes.

His time on the sidelines has given him time to think about what he might do after football, as his 30th birthday approaches.

At this stage, creating more board games is not an option — but you never know.

He said: “It’s been a tough and frustrating season.

“This break might have come at a good time to get my body right and hopefully play a big part in the last nine games.

“I’ve not come to any conclusions about what I’ll do next — but it will be something to do with football back in Iceland.”
