Fergie had already United to five Premier League titles by that point — as well as their famous Treble.

But he still had plenty left to give the Old Trafford faithful.

Fergie went on to win eight more titles before quitting in 2013.

And despite United’s dismal form since his exit, they are still top of the pile when it comes to the most games won, the least games lost and their average points-per-game ratio.

Since the turn of the century, which also ushered in a new millennium, United have won 59.9 per cent of their Premier League games.

Stats from OLBG show they have draw 20.6 per cent of those, which means United have only lost 19.5 per cent too.

That gives them an impressive points-per-game ratio of 2, putting them ahead of second-place Arsenal.

The Gunners have collected 1.95 points in the same period, with a similar loss percentage of 20 but a smaller win rate at 57.4.

Newcastle, Leeds and Aston Villa make up the rest of the top 10.

They are followed by Leicester, Brentford, Blackburn and West Ham.

Ipswich, Charlton and Brighton also beat the drop.

While the bottom three features Bolton, Stoke and Southampton — who are coincidentally bottom of this season’s Premier League too.
