‘Toughest thing I’ve ever done’ – John Terry forced to walk as blood pours from NIPPLE in gruelling London Marathon


JOHN TERRY was forced to walk halfway through the London Marathon and was spotted limping.

The Chelsea legend started strongly alongside his Blues pal Jody Morris.

Morris waited for his friend and they crossed the line together

But his pace quickly deteriorated after the halfway point.

Terry, 44, was spotted by TV cameras limping at one point, and it took him 55 minutes to go from the 35k point to 40k.

To make matters worse the former England captain appeared to be bleeding from one of his nipples.

Fortunately, Morris decided to wait for his friend to try and spur him on for a little while, and they later crossed the finish line together.

The duo have so far raised more than £46,000 for Rays of Sunshine, a children’s charity that supports and grants special wishes for seriously ill children aged three to 18.

Terry told SunSport: “This feels chalk and cheese to how you feel after a football match. Can’t compare that.

“That was the toughest thing I’ve done. Yeah, really tough. Both mentally and physically.

“At 13k, I felt it. Listen, it was hot today. We went off and we were doing well for the first 10-15k. Then the weather played a part. That was tough.

“I never wanted it to rain so much in London. Perfect golfing weather. Not for marathon running.

“I did a lot of training. I went to Dubai recently for the purpose of training in the heat. But there were nerves as well. I didn’t have the best night’s sleep.

“You’re worried. You want to set a time. I had to walk a couple of times as well. Listening to the fans and support was incredible. I was able to take it all in.

“It’s far too early to say if I’ll do another one. That is my first and it could be my last marathon. I’m not sure yet.”

Fans applauded Terry’s effort and his commitment to reach the finish line despite his injury.

One reacted saying: “Jody Morris diligently waiting for John Terry who appeared to be limping and having quite the time of it 😭”

Another added: “Ouch!!! Think John Terry has got a bloody nipple… 👏👏 But respect.”

A third wrote: “Turn on the marathon to see Jodie Morris and John Terry out for a lil jog 😅 Legends 💙@ChelseaFC”

Terry, who was one of five former Premier League stars running the London Marathon, finished in 5:00:43.

He was proud of his accomplishment, and enjoyed the banter he received from football fans along the way.

Terry continued: “There were so many Chelsea fans out there. A bit of banter from a couple of football fans, which is always nice. Thank you to everyone who pushed me.

“We have raised a lot of money for Rays of Sunshine and my John Terry Foundation.

“Really proud of that. My legs are killing me. I’ve not drunk for six to eight weeks. I am looking forward to a nice beer now.”

Former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere took to the course and was joined by Steve Sidwell and Danny Mills.

While seven-time Olympic gold medallist Jason Kenny also completed the marathon.
