Tottenham fans say ‘I beg your pardon’ after they launch shock transfer for England star amid Axel Disasi uncertainty

TOTTENHAM have made a shock bid for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

Ange Postecoglou’s side remain keen to sign a defender before tonight’s transfer deadline, despite recruiting Kevin Danso from RC Lens on Sunday.

Spurs’ defence has been decimated by injuries this season.

Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin are both missing with long-term issues, while Micky van de Ven has only recently returned to fitness following a lengthy lay-off.

Spurs have been attempting to sign Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea.

According to reporter Ben Jacobs, Tottenham agreed a deal with the Blues worth around £5m to take Disasi for the rest of the season.

The Frenchman would rather join Aston Villa, however, having already agreed terms with Unai Emery’s side.

And Spurs have decided to look elsewhere.

They hold long-term interest in England star Guehi, but Crystal Palace do not want to let their talisman go this month.

A sale is entirely possible in the summer though when Guehi will have only one year left on his contract.

Tottenham can expect a raft of competition for the ex-Chelsea man then with Liverpool and Newcastle expected to enter the conversation.

Spurs supporters have been left shocked by their Guehi bid, which SunSport understands came before the North Londoners moved for Danso.

Tottenham have had a busy last few days of the transfer window.

The Lilywhites agreed a £50million deal for Mathys Tel, only for the Bayern Munich forward to turn them down.

They were then snubbed by Fikayo Tomori, who opted to stay at AC Milan.

On Saturday night they hijacked Wolves’ swoop for Danso, signing the defender on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy for £20m in the summer.

The Austrian international has agreed a five-year deal that will come into effect at the end of the season.
