Carol was thousands of miles away from her husband, who was on international duty with Brazil, when she had to break the distressing news to him.

The mum-of-three, whose other children are Maria Eduarda, seven, Enrico, five, and Marina, two, said last last night as she made her heartbreaking revelation: “I’m going to talk about something that is not very good.

“But I’ve accepted what happened to me and I’ve come to share it with you.

“I can’t get on with my life if I don’t come here and explain to you a little of the things that have been happening in my life for a while now.”

Saying she was sorry about crying so much but insisting it was all part of the process, she continued: “A while ago I learnt the marvellous news that I was pregnant with my fourth child.

“I very happily announced that news to my family, my husband and my other children because it was something I had been trying for for some time.”

Carol, 31, said during her long video post that the initial tests she did during a trip to Brazil went fine.

But a second round of tests in France, where she had been expecting to hear her unborn child’s heartbeat, showed there was none and she was given the terrible news the pregnancy had not gone as expected.

She said: “I woke up happy, because it was the day I was going to listen to the heart. And I got there and there was no heartbeat and the baby wasn’t moving.

“Anyway, the pregnancy didn’t progress. My dream, the fourth baby, hadn’t worked out at that point. And my baby had turned into a little angel.”

Carol was alone in France when she decided to share her sad news with her Instagram followers because her husband was in South America on international duty with Brazil.

She went on to explain how doctors had to remove the foetus, saying she was resting at home and adding: “It’s a period of grief I’m going through, I had to break the news to my husband. He’s not here.

“Now I’m recovering, I still have a belly. Everything happens very quickly, the belly moves forward quickly, it’s already dilated and now I’m trying to recover my psychological state, which is a bit shaken up.”

Fans immediately rallied round to offer their support to Carol, who started dating Marquinhos after being discovered on a Brazilian reality TV show in 2014 and has branched out from social media to become a designer of baby clothes.

PSG fan group ParisInside said: “All the PSG family are with you.
“We love you so much and we send you all our strength right now.”

West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta’s wife Duda Fournier wrote: “May God give you strength, peace and lots of love Carol. Praying for you.”

Social media star friend Ya Burihan added on Carol’s Instagram post: “Girl you are so strong. If I could I would be there looking out for you.

“I know how much this hurts but like I told you trust God. I love you guys so much.”

In a separate Instagram Live post after breaking her news to fans, Carol added in a poignant second message as she quoted from a Brazilian poet: “Perhaps God has a greater plan for me, something that I perhaps wouldn’t have chosen, something that exceeds my greatest expectations.

“I want to believe there’s a reason for everything that happens. God doesn’t make mistakes and everything he allows will be revealed at the right moment.

“Remember that God, in his infinite wisdom, acts with perfection. What sometimes seems the end is part of a greater plan.”

Marquinhos, considered one of the best centre-backs in the world, is understood to have been about to head for Argentina when he learnt his wife had lost their unborn child.

Brazil were thrashed 4-1 in their World Cup qualifier against the reigning champions.

The 30-year-old from Sao Paulo reportedly found Carol on Facebook and messaged her before they started dating after she made a name for herself on Brazilian TV.

In March 2021 Marquinhos’ family home in France was broken into by robbers as he played for his club side.

The suspects reportedly assaulted the footballer’s family members before taking off with cash and designer handbags.

The defender’s father, Marcos Barros Correa, is said to have been struck in the face, chest and ribs by the intruders.

The thieves – who thought the property was Marquinhos’ personal residence – also threatened his two younger sisters, then aged 14 and 16.
