  • That’s all from Old Trafford

Where Manchester United have done something most unusual – and sent their fans home happy.

A hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ipswich demonstrated the squad’s ability to dig in when faced with adversity. Now they need to add some attacking spark to their game.

Not for the first time, Bruno Fernandes’ dead ball expertise got them out of a hole, and they can enjoy a rare round of Premier League games when they are looking up the table and not over their shoulders.

Whether they can continue it on Sunday against Fulham in the FA Cup remains to be seen – make sure you join us to find out.

    Goodnight.

  • Amorim praises fighting qualities

Ruben Amorim was full of praise for his players after they battled their way to victory against Ipswich with ten men

United had to play with a numerical disadvantage for the whole of the second half following Patrick Dorgu’s sending off but still found a way to find a winner through Harry Maguire.

After the game, Amorim said his side were deserving of victory, and were helped on their way by the home support.

Today I am not frustrated. We controlled the game and since the first minute I felt that the players were trying to play and we managed to score two goals. The sending off changed the game a bit but the fight the fans showed helped a lot and we fully deserved the three points. There are some moments that are really hard but that’s natural in every profession, you need to suffer.

  • Bruno delivers for United again

Not for the first time, Bruno Fernandes was the man to step up when Manchester United needed assisting – and he obliged with three.

Only one has gone down in the record books as an official assist, but all of United’s goals this evening stemmed from dangerous set-pieces that the captain sent into the box.

Since his Premier League debut on February the 1st, 2020, only Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne have more assists than the Portuguese playmaker (48).

  • Red Devils leapfrog Everton

Manchester United are finally on the move up the Premier League table after tonight’s 3-2 home win against Ipswich.

As a result, the Red Devils rise to 14th and above Everton, who could only draw at Brentford.

For Ipswich, they remain five points from safety after being unable to take advantage of Wolves’ home defeat to Fulham last night.

    Tonight’s Premier League results:

    • Brentford 1-1 Everton
    • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich
    • Nott’m Forest 0-0 Arsenal
    • Tottenham 0-1 Man City
    • Liverpool 2-0 Newcastle
  • Match stats from Old Trafford

Since Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge on November the 24th, Manchester United have conceded the first goal in more Premier League games than any other side (12).

However – since 1992 – they have now won 110 matches after conceding the first goal, the most of any side in Premier League history.

  • From Martin Blackburn at Old Trafford

Harry Maguire was the toast of Old Trafford again as he headed in a second half winner for a second straight game.

United did their best to lose at home for an eighth time this season as Patrick Dorgu gifted the visitors an early goal and later got a red card on his first home appearance in the Prem.

But credit to Ruben Amorim’s men for showing the spirit needed to recover from a calamitous end to the first half and steady the ship before claiming the points.

  • Full time – Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

The final whistle goes and Manchester United hold for three vital points. Hell, they could even afford some Bruno Fernandes showboating in the final seconds.

Despite playing the whole of the second half with ten men, United not only grabbed the lead at the start of it – but they were then comfortable as Ipswich dominated the ball.

Bruno Fernandes was the man who made it happen once more, laying on all three United goals with delicious set-pieces.

But there was still plenty to cause concern among the home ranks, not least with the manner in which they gifted the Tractor Boys two goals with shambolic defending.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

90+3. United send on Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen to wind down the final few seconds; Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee make way.

The Red Devils are edging closer to a rare home win.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    90. The fourth official holds up the board and the Old Trafford faithful will have to endure another four minutes if they are to hold on.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    89. There once was a time when Manchester United would be Ipswich 9-0 at Old Trafford.

Now they’ve got Leny Yoro getting booked for timewasting and Casemiro thumping his chest after winning a throw-in.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    87. Philogene forces a save from Onana, but it was an effort that was never going to bring about the hat-trick.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    85. That booking was Liam Delap’s ninth of the season, which means he’s just one yellow card away from a two-match ban.

That’s a scenario Ipswich will be desperate to avoid.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    83. Liam Delap has been described as a throwback striker at times this season, and here’s a good reason.

The former Manchester City youngster deploys not one but two shoulder barges on Manuel Ugarte, eventually sending him spinning to the turf.

The United players aren’t happy with the Ipswich forward, not least Noussair Mazraoui who is straight over with a shove of retribution.

When the situation calms down, Darren England yellow cards both players.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    81. Inside the final ten minutes and it remains in the balance.

This could be a huge ten minutes in Ipswich’s season. It could be a huge ten minutes in the coaching career of Ruben Amorim.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    79. That effort at goal was Tuanzebe’s last act, and he receives warm applause from the home supporters as he departs.

Left wing-back Leif Davis is also off, and so it’s an opportunity for Ben Johnson and George Hirst to propel Ipswich back into this one.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    77. Axel Tuanzebe – who spent close to two decades on the books of Manchester United – tries his luck to deflate his former fans.

His right-foot thumper is blocked at close quarters.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    74. Ipswich are working the ball in the United half, switching play from flank to flank and looking to expose an opening.

For now, United are holding firm, but they’re only outlet is Joshua Zirkzee, who is leading the line very well.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    72. Substitute Jack Taylor tries his luck from outside the box, but it has neither the power or accuracy to threaten.

But Ipswich are beginning to take it up a gear.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    70. Twenty minutes remain, and while United aren’t comfortable – they’re never comfortable – they’re yet to be truly troubled by Ipswich in this second half.

In fact, most of the trouble faced in this game has been entirely their own doing.

  • From Martin Blackburn at Old Trafford

Is Harry Maguire going to be the match-winner for a second straight game at Old Trafford?

He struck deep into stoppage time to edge the FA Cup tie with Leicester earlier this month.

And here he was again – nodding in a Bruno Fernandes corner to put his 10-man team in front.

None of the chaos of the first half with United in control.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    68. Manchester United are already down to ten men, and some wisecracks would suggest that they are now down to nine men following the introduction of Casemiro.

    Not me though.

The Brazilian replaces Rasmus Hojlund after it initially looked as though the superior Joshua Zirkzee was going off.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    66. Kieran McKenna turns to his bench and introduces Jack Taylor and Nathan Broadhead.

Off goes Sam Morsy and Omari Hutchinson, who has been hobbling these past few minutes.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    63. Neat play from Ipswich to cut United open.

Hutchinson slips Cajuste in on the left, and his low drive across the six-yard box has just too much pace for Philogene to control at the back post.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    61. Joshua Zirkzee goes into the book for kicking the ball away.

The big forward isn’t happy at conceding a free-kick to Jacob Greaves and gives referee Darren England little choice.

  • Man Utd 3-2 Ipswich

    59. Cajuste is pushing forward whenever possible, and is looking to exploit the gaps vacated by Dorgu’s sending off.

He shows a lovely turn of feet in the box too to make room for a shot, but once again De Ligt is on hand to block.
