  • Celtic ended up as a ‘real threat’

Ex-Hoops keeper Pat Bonner was impressive with their rousing finale.

Bayern held on to win 2-1 but Bonner told BBC Sportsound: “(Boss) Brendan Rodgers was on the pitch to congratulate his players at the end of the match and rightly so.

“Celtic were a real threat at the end.

“Maeda chased down every ball and rushed them. They showed they can compete against a top team.”

  • Celtic have ‘very very slim chance’

Ex-Scotland winger Pat Nevin believes Daizen Maeda’s late reply has changed Celtic’s task from Mission Impossible to Mission Highly Unlikely.

Michael Olise’s 45th-minute stunner and a typical Harry Kane finish underlined Bayern’s domination of possession.

But Maeda gobbled up a 78th-minute loose ball to leave the Scottish champs 2-1 down for the play-off return leg in Germany.

Ex-Chelsea star Nevin told BBC Radio 5 live: “I would say at 2-0 it was bordering on impossible but at 2-1 there’s a chance.

“It’s a very, very slim chance but the spirit that Celtic showed in the last 15 minutes will stand them in good stead for the second-leg.”
