Wayne Rooney has BBC studio in stitches as he plays prank on Alan Shearer ahead of Euros 2024 Netherlands v France clash

WAYNE ROONEY hilariously pranked Alan Shearer by sitting in his seat in the BBC studio ahead of the Netherlands’ clash with France.

Manchester United and England legend Rooney, 38, was a part of the live broadcast for the Euro 2024 match alongside Gary Lineker, Shearer and Cesc Fabregas.

Regular pundit Shearer, 53, always sits in the chair closest to presenter Lineker, 63, as the senior analyst on the show.

But Rooney brilliantly decided to mess with the Newcastle icon before he came in the room.

He said: “I should get in Alan’s seat before he comes up.”

Rooney chuckled to himself as he waited for Shearer to enter the room.

And when he did arrive, Shearer realised straight away what the ex-Man Utd captain had done.

The former Southampton and Blackburn striker smiled as Lineker said: “You’ve been relegated, Al.”

Taking the joke in good faith, Shearer responded: “Been relegated again?,” referencing him taking Newcastle down as manager in 2009.

Rooney and the crew behind the camera began to laugh, before Shearer added: “It’s a good funny, though.”

He then patted Rooney on the back as the new Plymouth manager was moved along into his seat.

He also recounted a superb story about ex-Man Utd team-mate Memphis Depay – who started up front for the Netherlands.

He said: “I was at a reserve game once being a bit lowkey, and he turned up in a Rolls Royce and a cowboy hat.

“I had to speak to him. So that was Memphis.”
