THE SON of Manchester United legend Andy Cole has been released by Barnsley, despite being the club’s top goalscorer.
Devante Cole, 29, scored 18 goals and assisted three times in his 46 games for Barnsley this season.
His goals helped fire the Tykes to the League One Play-Offs after they finished sixth in the league.
They lost the first leg of their play-off semi-final to Bolton 3-1 before winning the second 3-2 – going out 5-4 on aggregate.
The club went into those matches without a manager after Neil Collins was sacked before the final game of the league season.
Cole scored a total of 34 goals in 115 appearances for Barnsley across three seasons.
