Prior to kick-off, the panel, which also included Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas, discussed Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.

After watching his iconic Cruyff turn in action, Lineker said: “It’s almost 50 years to the day since we saw the Cruyff turn.

“I remember it as well, 1974 here in Germany.”

Shearer turned to Lineker before remarking: “He turned you too didn’t he?

“Turned you into a winger and turned you into a substitute.”

Lineker burst out laughing, and then said: “Er thanks Al.”

Lineker played under Cruyff during his time at Barcelona, but fell out of favour under his management.

Having initially been signed to play as a striker by Terry Venables, Lineker was played on the right of midfield after Cruyff took charge in 1988.

His struggles in the position ultimately resulted in the England icon losing his place in the team and leaving the following year.

A third also commented: “Shearer mugging off Lineker about Cruyff,” with a series of crying emojis.

Shearer’s dig comes just days after Lineker also took aim at a BBC colleague live on air.
