Richarlison risks wrath of Tottenham fans with no-holds-barred statement about playing for Brazil


RICHARLISON has made is clear where his priorities lie when it come to club or country.

The Tottenham star is on international duty with Brazil as he gears up for two tough clashes.

Brazil face both England and Spain during the break and Richarlison will be hoping to earn his 49th and 50th caps for the Selecao.

And, despite always showing his passion when representing Spurs, the 26-year-old has revealed the Brazil team will always be his number one priority.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Wembley bout with England he explained how he ensured Brazil boss Dorival Junior knew how much he valued his place with the national team.

He said: “He came and talked to us eye to eye, and I told him that the national team comes first for me.

“It’s God in heaven and the national team on earth. I passed on that confidence to him.

“It’s the start of a new cycle, it’s great to be at this beginning, I hope we can build a winning team.”

Richarlison also opened up on how he has been able to re-focus his attention on football after seeking help with a psychologist.

He explained: “It is really important to have the support of a psychologist. All players should have that support.

“That’s really helped. Now, I am totally focused mentally on my football.”

He added: “There were days when I didn’t want to leave the house, leave my room.

“I’d go to train, go straight home and lock myself inside my room.

“As I am from the countryside and there is a kind of attitude like, ‘I am not going to do these [therapy] sessions, because I am not crazy’, or something. My family has this prejudice.”

His focus on the pitch is paying dividends with the striker having a superb season for Spurs under Ange Postecoglou.

The former Watford man has scored 10 goals and registered thee assists in his 23 Premier League appearances this season.
