ALLY McCoist has revealed he was once targeted by a crazed female fan who had escaped from prison.
The Rangers legend told how he was given a warning by police about the woman who was obsessed with him.
McCoist was visited by officers at his then home in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, and was informed the woman was on the loose.
The former Ibrox player and manager was shown a photograph of her and urged to take precautions to keep himself safe.
The incident happened when the 61-year-old was a young player at Rangers in the 1980s.
Asked on talkSPORT if he had ever had a “weird fan”, he said: “Oh aye. I had the police at my door one day.
“It was back in the day when I was living in my flat up in East Kilbride.
“I shouldn’t be going into it too much but the police came to my door just to let me know that somebody had actually escaped. Honest to God.
“It was just to warn me to keep an eye out just in case. They brought me a photograph of the person.”
McCoist admitted he was scared by the police warning and would have felt more equipped to deal with the situation if the fan was a male.

However he saw the funny side of the story when asked to confirm if it was a woman.
He added: “That’s an incredible thing to say. Do you think there’s a lot of guys out there that I am not their type?
“That’s harsh. At that stage of my career I was appealing to both sexes but you’re actually factually correct.
“You could have hit him a cracker (if it was a guy).”
Earlier this year Frankie Boyle told how he was stalked in a similar way to fellow Scots comic and Baby Reindeer star Richard Gadd.
Boyle said he has been unable to watch the hit Netflix show because he fears it would trigger memories of how he was targeted.
In 2018 a woman was ordered by a court to stay away from Boyle for three years after being accused of stalking him over an eight-month period.

She was said to have turned up to his gigs and arrived at a hotel in Edinburgh when he was staying there.
Boyle said: He said: “I had a stalker in quite a similar situation to that guy (in Baby Reindeer) and I just can’t watch the show.
“She was very much focused on living under a tree outside my house for quite some length of time.”
Baby Reindeer depicts the story of a stalker who harassed Gadd over a number of years. The seven-part series is inspired by Gadd’s 2019 Edinburgh Fringe show of the same name.
