Peter Crouch reveals Premier League boss told him to ‘reign it in’ after Abbey Clancy pictures ‘no one could believe’


PETER CROUCH has revealed one of his former managers warned him to “reign in” his behaviour after he appeared in the papers too often.

The former striker became a household name during his spell with Liverpool.

He went to the 2006 World Cup and his famous robot celebration meant he was hugely popular and a well-known figure.

While his relationship with Abbey Clancey was also attracting attention from the media.

Then Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez warned Crouch about his frequent appearances in the papers, suggesting it was becoming a “problem”.

Crouch recalled a conversation he had with his former manager on That Peter Crouch Podcast.

He said: “I remember Rafa told me to reign it in because Abbey was in the paper and I was getting pictured with her and stuff like that.

“He was like ‘are you sure about this?’ And I was like well…He’s saying look you know this is becoming a problem.

“You know because people are taking pictures of us and we’re in the paper. I think no one could believe what was going on when I was with Ab like how the f*** has he pulled that.

“My unbelievable achievements off the pitch were perhaps overshadowing my reasonable achievements on the pitch.”

The couple, who married in 2011, still feature regularly in the media to this day with Abbey revealing she has discovered a pill which has saved her sex life.

They also caught the eye as they stripped off to their swimwear on holiday in Italy earlier this summer.
