SAM STUBBS is one game away from taking Bradford to a cup final at Wembley Stadium.

The 25-year-old defender is the son of Premier League cult hero Alan Stubbs.

Bradford host Wycombe in the EFL Trophy semi-finals on Wednesday.

The winner will face either Blackpool or Peterborough at Wembley in April.

Stubbs and his team-mates are hoping to reach the final for the first time in Bradford’s history.

Graham Alexander’s side are currently 13th in League Two but sit just two points off the play-off places.

Wigan academy graduate Stubbs joined the club in January 2023 following permanent spells with Middlesbrough, Fleetwood and Exeter.

He has made 32 appearances across all competitions so far this season, with his one goal coming in the last 16 win over Derby in January.

Meanwhile, his dad made 212 appearances in the Premier League for Everton, Bolton, Sunderland and Derby.

Stubbs scored 11 top-flight goals from centre-back during a playing career which also included a spell with Celtic.

The 52-year-old has gone into management since retiring 16 years ago and won the Scottish Cup with Hibernian in 2016.

Stints in charge of Rotherham and St. Mirren have followed, but Stubbs has been out of work since leaving the Saints in 2018.
