Chicharito, 35, had been a free agent after leaving Los Angeles Galaxy following the expiry of his contract.

Hernandez has been out of action since suffering a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury back in June.

However, he has now returned to Mexico and former side Chivas after 14 years.

Hernandez scored 29 goals in 79 appearances and won a Mexican title before his move to United in 2010.

His return comes as Chivas look to win the championship for the first time since 2017 after a fifth-placed finish in the opening half of the campaign.

Hernandez scored 59 goals in 157 appearances for United after joining the Red Devils from Chivas.

He also won two Premier League titles during five years at Old Trafford, before later returning to England with West Ham.

His 53 league goals for United and the Hammers are the most by a Mexican in Premier League history.

At international level, Chicharito is Mexico’s all-time top scorer with 52 goals in 109 caps as well as being a veteran of three World Cups.

He was also part of his country’s 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup triumph, picking up the tournament’s top scorer and best player awards.
