Man Utd boost as Graham Potter SNUBS Ajax despite ex-Chelsea manager being impressed by Dutch champions

He allegedly snubbed offers from Lyon, Leicester and the Swedish national team last year while holding out for the perfect job.

And according to The Athletic, Potter has now declined the opportunity to become Ajax manager.

The ex-Brighton boss was understood to be impressed by the Dutch giants, but did not feel the project was right for him.

John van’t Schip has been in charge of Ajax on an interim basis since Maurice Steijn was sacked in October.

But club chiefs now want to appoint a new permanent manager ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

Potter was dismissed by Chelsea last year, just seven months after taking over from Thomas Tuchel.

He is now on the radar of Manchester United.

The Red Devils could sack Erik ten Hag this summer following a poor run of form.

He could make a return to the Premier League having already managed Chelsea.

Meanwhile, England boss Southgate is understood to be one of United’s top choices.

Should he leave the Red Devils, Ten Hag has been linked with a return to Ajax.

He left the Eredivisie side in 2022 to join Man Utd.

Pundits’ verdict on Ten Hag’s future

Where do the pundits stand on Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United future?

Michael Owen – He has to go

“He cannot, simply cannot, manage this team next season. He’s not good enough.”

Teddy Sheringham – Might stay if he wins Cup but should go

“If United win the FA Cup, he could stay. But, for me, changes are needed and United need to get it done sooner than later.”

Jamie Carragher – Sacked

“I don’t see how Erik ten Hag stays. It’s just performance after performance.”

Gary Neville – Stay if he wins the FA Cup

“To sack a manager who’s won two trophies in his first two seasons at the club I think would be extreme.”

Louis Saha – On the fence

“I don’t see it as clearly but they need changes from the players but they need changes from him as well.”

Alan Shearer – Sacked

“I believe the future of the Man Utd manager is already determined. Even if they win the FA Cup I think he’s gone.”
