Martinez started in consecutive defeats to Brighton and Liverpool, having been embarrassed 3-0 in the latter fixture.

But just days after that humiliation he posed for a photo with Reds star Alexis Mac Allister, his Argentina team-mate.

Martinez, 26, beamed in the snap and did not pose for a photo alongside any other team-mates, which provoked criticism from United fans.

One reacted saying: “Mate, we just got battered by Liverpool on Sunday. Choose when to put out a pic of you & a Liverpool player wisely. This is not the time Licha.”

Another added: “This is proper s**** from Martinez.

“But the sad reality is players in this generation don’t care about rivalries the way players did a decade ago. I hate the way football is now.”

A third wrote: “The harsh reality is most of the players at the club don’t care about results or understand the culture and rivalries.”

And another commented: “He talks so much about passion and the shirt to not understand the basics. This pic is just so wrong right now.”

Another Argentine Red Devil, Alejandro Garnacho, was subject to criticism online after the Liverpool defeat.

The winger is yet to reach the high standards he set last season this time around with one fan posting a compilation video showing Garnacho losing the ball and misplacing passes.

Man Utd fans say ‘this is a tough watch’ as Ten Hag claims he ‘feels sorry’ for journalist in awkward interview

Garnacho hit back in a since-deleted post, saying: “Wasting your time making clips of me – your life so far.”
