Mark Pougatch began the segment by congratulating Souness, who was in the studio alongside him.

The former Liverpool midfielder, 71, shared his joy before Pougatch handed over to Woods and McCoist after they covered Scotland’s defeat to Germany.

She said: “I have Alistair Murdoch McCoist OBE.

The popular pundit thanked Woods, who added: “I told him we were going to do a bit more analysis.”

“You’ve conned me, not for the first time I may add,” McCoist, 61, joked.

“I’m thrilled, first congratulations to Graeme for his lovely words and well done to him.

“I’m equally thrilled and I know my wee mum will be looking down on me and she’ll be absolutely ecstatic.”

Woods, 36, cheekily suggested that McCoist was set for a knighthood next and hugged her pal before suggesting at least there was a silver lining after Scotland’s humbling.
