Jose Mourinho ‘ready to walk to Old Trafford to take over Man Utd’ if close pal Sir Jim Ratcliffe makes offer

In fact the newspaper reports that Jose is very keen to make what would be a sensational return to Old Trafford.

They claim: “Mourinho has told confidants he would ‘walk’ to Manchester to manage United for a second time, having been sacked by the club in December 2018.”

Man Utd currently sit in eighth place and with Arsenal, Newcastle, and Brighton still left to play, they could very well finish outside the top seven for the first time since 1990.

And following a 4-0 thrashing by Crystal Palace, the club broke their Premier League record for most losses in a single season with 13.

During his tenure at Old Trafford, Mourinho won three trophies in his first season including the Europa League.

He then dubbed his second place finish in the following season as “one of my greatest ever achievements” despite finishing 19 points behind title-winners Man City.

Since his sacking, the club have failed to replicate the success they saw under the Portuguese coach, winning only the Carabao Cup.

Despite being a friend of United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, however, Mourinho is not expecting an approach from the British billionaire.

The Champions League semi-finalists have been looking for a new coach to replace Thomas Tuchel who will be departing at the end of the season.

But with the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Julen Lopetegui turning the German club down, Jose Mourinho could be the next best thing.

Last month reports in Germany claimed that Mourinho is already learning German in preparation to take over at Bayern, who are looking to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

Mourinho was later asked if he has received any offers, and the Special One replied: “Zero, zero.

“I don’t have a club, I’m free. But I want to work, in the summer I want to work.”

Bayern board member, Max Eberl, indicated that Mourinho is on the club’s list of candidates to replace Tuchel.

“There are more than four, but certainly not 40 names on it,” he told SportBILD.
