GENNARO GATTUSO has been sacked by Marseille.
The Italian and his backroom staff have been dismissed by the club’s board, according to Fabrizio Romano.
He leaves following Sunday’s 1-0 loss away to 10-man Brest in Ligue 1.
The result leaves Marseille ninth in the table with just seven wins from 22 matches.
Gattuso’s exit comes after he shut down any hopes of European qualification after the defeat to Brest.
Speaking after the match, he admitted: We’ve hit rock bottom.

“When you hit rock bottom, you have to take responsibility. It’s my responsibility. There is nothing else to say.
“The table? The truth is that we’re going to have to start looking behind us. We can no longer speak about Europe. We just need to take the necessary points to be calm in the standings.”
Gattuso had only been appointed by the French giants in September on a deal until the end of the season.
However, he managed only nine wins from his 24 matches across all competitions.
