    Peep!

    Off we go in Dublin!!!

  • National anthem booed

Deafening boos ring around the Aviva Stadium during the English national anthem.

The Three Lions’ stars, though, are undaunted, some even yelled God Save the King – such as captain Harry Kane.

Interim boss Lee Carsley held to his word and didn’t sing, like always.

England fans started chanting in support before the anthem ended and gave their players a standing ovation.

  • Mason Greenwood ‘not considered’

England interim boss Lee Carsley has confirmed he “cannot consider” Marseille’s controversial player Mason Greenwood.

Mason wasn’t a player that we can consider to be honest, no.

I’m aware of how he’s doing but he wasn’t under consideration.

    Lee Carsley

  • Carsley on national anthem

England interim boss Lee Carsley will not sing the national anthem today as he has never sung any anthem in his career.

Carsley was born in Birmingham but made 40 appearances for the Republic of Ireland as a player after qualifying through his grandmother, who was from Cork.

The 50-year-old tactician did not sing the Irish anthem before playing for them nor the British anthem when managing the England Under-21s.

This is something that I always struggled with when I was playing for Ireland.

I am thinking about how the opposition are going to set up and our first actions within the game.

I fully respect both anthems and understand how much they mean to both countries.

  • Head to Head

England and the Republic of Ireland’s first ever encounter took place way back in 1882 when the former came visiting with a thumping 13-0 victory during an international friendly.

Since then, the two sides have faced off a total of 52 times with the Three Lions winning a majority of 35 matches compared to Ireland’s five victories.

The Irish haven’t beaten the English national team since 1995 in a friendly that saw them winning 1-0 thanks to David Kelly’s winner.

England won their most recent meeting at Wembley three years ago with a 3-0 friendly victory.

  • Republic of Ireland team news

Republic of Ireland manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has included uncapped Bristol City goalkeeper Max O’Leary and Leicester’s forward Kasey McAteer to his first ever squad as boss of the national team.

However, O’Leary will certainly play backup to Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Shane Duffy and Enda Stevens were left out by Hallgrimsson but 35-year-old captain Seamus Coleman made the cut.

Brighton star Evan Ferguson looks set to spearhead the attack against England.

  • Republic of Ireland vs England preview

England face the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium tonight in their first match after Gareth Southgate’s resignation as manager.

This also marks the Three Lions’ first game under interim boss Lee Carsley, who is auditioning for the full-time job.

Carsley will be without Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins, who withdrew from international duty earlier this week.

The 50-year-old tactician is expected to reinstate Harry Maguire and Jack Grealish in the starting XI after the two Premier League stars missed out on Euro 2024.

Levi Colwill also looks set for his first competitive England cap after his debut in 2023 in an international friendly against Australia.

And Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to return at right-back having been deployed as a midfielder during the Euros – that means Maguire and Marc Guehi may team up at centre-back with Colwill at left-back.

Noni Madueke, Angel Gomes, Morgan Gibbs-White and Tino Livramento will all be hoping for a debut against Ireland.
