PETER CROUCH has revealed he once spent £300 on a cheese and ham sandwich.
The former England striker left his podcast co-hosts Chris Stark and Steve Sidwell stunned.
Crouch explained that he and his model wife Abbey Clancy were on holiday in the luxury region of Porto Cervo in Sardinia.
The couple splashed the cash on a high-end meal at Hotel Cala di Volpe.
It is one of their “favourite places” – but one time things did not go as planned.
Crouch said on his podcast: “I bought a cheese and ham sandwich that cost me £300.”

A gobsmacked Stark was left in hysterics, saying: “Sorry I can’t deal with the quotes today. What happened there?”
Crouch explained: “The lunch there is off the scale but you need to go full board or you get absolutely fleeced.
“It’s about £300 a head for lunch so you better f***ing enjoy this lunch.
“We went and Abbey wasn’t hungry, so I said to the waiter ‘she’s just going to have a cheese sandwich’ and that’s totally fine.

“I filled my boots. I was having the whole lot but they still charged her the full £300 – that’s before drink, that’s only food.
“I paid £300 for a cheese sandwich, I couldn’t believe it.
“I’ve argued it but they said it’s a set menu, you can have what you like.
“It’s an absolute scandal, it was a really bog standard cheese sandwich.”
Despite the mishap, Crouch loved the food so much he went back there later in their holiday.
But again he got caught out, explaining: “I’m not getting fleeced today, I’m not having this anymore.
“Usually you go the second cheapest wine but I thought f**k this I’m going all in for the cheapest.
“I’ve pretended to look through the menu and then gone for the cheapest.
“The waiter knows exactly what I’m doing – but again he has s***housed me.
“He came and it was a f***ing half bottle – I had to pretend Abbey wasn’t drinking.
“But I’d still go back, that’s how unbelievable it is.”
