Groundsmen made a desperate attempt to get the game on, using forks and spades at the Bescot Stadium.

But following an inspection from the ref, a decision was made to postpone the fixture.

A BBC reporter claims when the ball landed there was “an audible plop”.

Supporters were left unhappy with the late timing of the decision as one raged: “Pathetic calling the game off when fans are ten mins from the ground.”
