ROY KEANE has warned Manchester United about hiring Dan Ashworth as their sporting director.
The Red Devils have reportedly been working on a deal to bring in the Newcastle chief this week.
Ashworth is understood to be keen on the job too but Keane has raised some concerns over the appointment.
Former United star Keane pointed out Ashworth’s recent job history, and his tendency to move from one job to another after only a short time.
He warned the transfer guru could jump ship at Old Trafford if a bigger club came knocking.
Ashworth said: “He doesn’t hang around does he? I’m not sure loyalty is on the top of his list.
“He left Brighton for Newcastle and now [in only 2 years] he’s jumping to join United.
“You have to look at that side of the personality as well, no doubt he is brilliant at his job, but who’s to say in a year and a half he might want to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona.”
Ashworth, 52, joined Newcastle in February 2022 but appears to be ready to move on after helping Toon qualify for the Champions League last season.
Prior to his spell in the north east he spent almost three years at Brighton as Technical Director – a role he also held at West Brom.

Ashworth could join at the end of the season so that United can avoid paying Newcastle a large compensation fee.
The two parties are said to have held talks with the Red Devils set to formally approach Newcastle next.
Once captured United could turn their attention to Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox.
Wilcox could be handed a “key role” in the club’s sporting department, where he would report to Ashworth.
