SUNDERLAND’S Stadium of Light is set for a multi-million-pound investment this summer.
The Black Cats have announced a major transformation of the ground to improve the fan experience at the stadium.
It follows investment into the club’s hospitality spaces last summer.
Work is set to begin at the end of this season on the 49,000-capacity stadium, which is the ninth biggest football ground in England.
Sunderland plan to introduce safe standing alongside a new PA system, floodlights and playing surface.
Improvements will also be made to install 5G at the Stadium of Light.

Safe standing areas are set to be introduced for 3,000 seats in the Roker End and North Stand Upper.
The club hope the changes will “help build atmosphere and reinforce the impact” of their home stand.
Sunderland are also set to announce a new kit and retail partner in April.
Chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus told the club website: “Today, we’re delighted to announce that we are continuing a significant period of investment to develop the Stadium of Light, with the next phase set to complete before the start of the new season.

Sunderland have played at the Stadium of Light since it opened in 1997 after moving from Roker Park.
The ground has previously hosted England internationals and will be one of eight venues for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
With a capacity of 49,000, the Stadium of Light is the ninth biggest football stadium in England, behind St. James’ Park and ahead of Villa Park.
