Classy Anthony Gordon surprises Newcastle fans by putting money behind bar before Brighton clash


ANTHONY GORDON thrilled Newcastle fans ahead of today’s clash with Brighton by putting money behind a local bar.

The England winger, 23, has become a fans’ favourite at St James’ Park since joining from Everton in January 2023.

And he’ll have done his standing no harm by making an amazing gesture ahead of today’s match.

The Strawberry Pub is located a stone’s throw from St James’ Park and is routinely full of Geordie fans on matchday.

As supporters made their way to the boozer, they found a generous surprise waiting for them.

According to Toon fans on social media, Gordon left money behind the bar to pay for drinks.

Happy supporters have posed for pictures with cards reading: “Anthony Gordon bought me a pint @TheBerryPub.”

According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, Gordon made the gesture to thank fans for their support following his penalty miss at Everton last time out.

Prior to the international break, Gordon saw his penalty saved by former team-mate Jordan Pickford as the Toon drew 0-0 at Goodison Park.

Fans have gushed on social media over their beloved winger.

One wrote on X: “What a touch by @anthonygordon putting money for fans behind the bar in the @theberrypub today… he’s fully invested in our fans and the city that’s for sure. Doesn’t need to do it but that’s the class of the fella.”

A second called it a “great gesture”.

Newcastle’s Supporters Club commented: “Top man @anthonygordon. Putting money behind the bar at @theberrypub to thank fans for their support!”

And another fan added: “Touch of class.”

Gordon was subsequently named in Newcastle’s starting XI for the clash with Brighton.

The wide man has scored two goals in seven appearances for the Toon so far this season, including an effort in their last home game against Manchester City.
